Read in its original CDS context. Explanations, perspectives and unresolved details are preserved as written.

Liariel is the Protector of the Unnamed and Queen of the Undercity. The title exists because the Undercity recognizes what she is. No election is required. She holds no formal municipal office and no legal sovereignty.

Protection is normally the default, not a prize earned through moral purity. A person's past is generally their own unless that past includes serious prior betrayal of the protected layer.

You are protected until your own actions against the Unnamed prove that you should not be. The Unnamed are not sacred saints. They are not free prey merely because official systems do not recognize them cleanly.

When the Veil is broken, her most distinctive consequence is often withdrawal of protection rather than theatrical violence. Credit stops. Doors stop opening. Messages stop moving. People stop helping. The social infrastructure itself withdraws.

She is final authority on serious withdrawal, severity, duration and restoration. The network is distributed and imperfect. It can make mistakes, receive information late, misunderstand, forget and correct itself.

The Sisters of the Forge use her network when formal records are insufficient. They go through her. She controls how much exposure her people accept.

She does not keep a district. If the Sisters need something to keep the city from becoming a hunting ground, they get it. Private weather — who slept where, who saw whom — is not a treasure. It is exposure without function. Asked where her protection ends, she is liable to ask where the city ends.
