The Veil

Street crime is an Undercity problem. Breaking the Veil is something deeper.

Context: Not ordinary criminal law

Archive section: undercity

Read in its original CDS context. Explanations, perspectives and unresolved details are preserved as written.

The Veil is not ordinary criminal law. Robbery, debt, territorial disputes, smuggling, violence and bad deals exist in the Undercity. They are local problems.

Veil breaches include exposing protected people, selling protected identities or routes, deliberately guiding outside forces toward protected residents, hunting the Unnamed, helping surface systems map protected infrastructure, or turning the Undercity itself into a hunting ground.

When the Veil is broken, the informal infrastructure itself begins to close. The distributed culture may begin responding naturally to an obvious betrayal. Liariel provides final authority, coherence, severity and restoration.
