Glossary: Digital Displacement

Core Concept

Definition

Digital Displacement is the fundamental state in which the central characters of Callizto Dark Symphony exist. They are translated beings suspended between flesh, memory, and code — not fully any one of these states, but existing in the unstable space between them.

This is not a temporary condition or a flaw to be fixed. It is their ontology — the condition of their being.

Key Characteristics

What It Allows

Digital Displacement permits subtle continuity drift in small details:

What It Does NOT Allow

Digital Displacement is not permission for redesign. It does not permit:

Relationship to Glitch

Digital Displacement naturally produces glitch. The instability of existing between states manifests as visual and narrative glitch. The project treats this glitch as meaningful signal rather than failure.

Why It Matters

Digital Displacement is one of the project’s most important contributions to thinking about identity under technological pressure. It rejects the fantasy of perfect, lossless translation between human experience and digital representation. It embraces the fracture as a site of meaning, resistance, and strange new forms of existence.

It is also a direct counter to The Misalignment’s demand for clean, stable, optimized forms. Characters who exist in displacement cannot be easily contained or erased by systems that require perfect consistency.

Guardrail

Digital Displacement allows subtle continuity drift in minor details.
It does not allow changes to core visual anchors (hair color, hairstyle silhouette, face identity, body type).
Core anchors remain protected. Drift belongs to the small things.
