The Archive
The Archive is not important because it is powerful. It is important because it remembers.
Read in its original CDS context. Explanations, perspectives and unresolved details are preserved as written.
The Archive is larger than a library and older than any single catalogue that claims to describe it.
Gothic-futuristic halls stand beside server vaults. Memory structures survive collapses that were supposed to tidy them away. Records persist because someone, or something, refused to let them become efficient.
It preserves contradiction, grief, memory and human error. Not everything inside it is the final truth. Not every surviving record is authoritative. Some are preserved because even an error can become part of history.
The visitor is not given a complete map. Completeness would be a kind of correction.
