The Partner at the Tap
The partner still has a bad wrist. Kesh still fills the can. Dess is weather. Nobody pretends this is fair. It is the line that keeps the next debt from becoming a catalogue.
A fictional narrative within Callizto Dark Symphony.
The partner’s chassis ticked in the old way.
Kesh did not ask how the wrist was. Asking would have been a shop.
Can. Gauge. No speech.
Dess stood where last had been, and last did not come.
Tam hated it and kept the gauge boring.
After, Tam said, “We could—”
“We could teach every medical debt to copy a sleeve,” Kesh said. “Fill the next child.”
They filled the next child.
The partner walked away with water and a silence that would last longer than a wrist. That was not a happy ending. It was a pipe still open for the people who had not sold the morning.
