Pell’s Note Upstairs
Pell will settle a jammed door. She will not accept a catalogue of quiet people as part of loading rights.
A fictional narrative within Callizto Dark Symphony.
The boy from the counting house asked if Pell wanted a list, going forward, of marks that were not hers.
“No.”
“It would prevent copies.”
“It would be a shop window with extra steps.” Pell put the copied stitch in his hand. “This is refuse. Treat it like refuse. If Kael starts listing sleepers I will take the Cut back to nine-year agreements and carts that don’t read.”
The boy, who was not a fool, took the refuse upstairs.
The Cut loaded.
Pell did not raise her voice. She had not needed to for nine years.
