The Child Repeated It
Bee repeats Dess’s menu on the landing. Adults had dismissed it as a game. It is not a game. It is evidence because children are furniture until they speak.
A fictional narrative within Callizto Dark Symphony.
“Pay and the Queen’s people leave you alone,” Bee said, cheerfully, to the laces.
Ane’s hands stopped.
“Where.”
“Dess. She had sweets. She said it was a secret shop.”
Ane did not shout. Shouting taught children to perform.
She told Yew. Yew’s lie about Rell had already been spent. This sentence she did not lie about.
When the turquoise hair was in the corridor later, Bee was not produced as a witness in a drama. Liariel asked what the laces had heard, and Bee, who liked accurate games, said it again, smaller.
Then Ane took Bee inside and gave them bread that had been more bread yesterday, which was still morning.
