Heat Complaint, 3B
3B files a heat complaint. 3A files a counter-complaint about 3B’s fan. By evening the landing has become a shared dinner, which is not what the form was for, and is better.
A fictional narrative within Callizto Dark Symphony.
The complaint from 3B said: Cooling inadequate. Neighbouring unit directed airflow into common landing. Sleep affected.
The complaint from 3A said: Neighbouring unit refuses shared air. Fan is civic.
Officer Pell from Housing, who was not related to any of the other Pells in the city and was tired of saying so, climbed the stairs at 18:00 because the lift in this block was a rumor.
Both doors were open.
The landing was a dining room.
“You’re the form,” said 3B, a synthetic woman with a kitchen towel over her shoulder.
“I’m the follow-up,” Pell said.
3A, human, older, offered a plate.
“We settled.”
“The tickets are still open.”
“Close them. Eat.”
Pell should have cited procedure. The landing was cooler than the street. Someone had pointed the infamous fan at a bowl of ice like a prototype.
“What was the actual problem?” Pell asked.
“Pride,” said 3A.
“And the heat,” said 3B.
They had cooked too much on purpose. Pell stayed for twenty minutes, which would appear on no form as resolution quality.
He closed both tickets from the stair.
Complainants reached private arrangement. Cooling remains seasonal. Fan remains civic.
Ashfall, in summer, accepted this as infrastructure.
