Four Seats Away
A short exchange between an usher and a visitor shows how a future city sometimes works best when no one makes a big thing of the differences between bodies.
An in-world document. Its claims retain their fictional perspective and may be incomplete or contradictory.
USHER: We can move the row if you want.
VISITOR: Why?
USHER: Your chassis needs more knee room than the seat you booked.
VISITOR: I booked the wrong one.
USHER: It happens.
VISITOR: Do all four people have to move?
USHER: No. We have a wider seat four places away.
VISITOR: I’ll take that one.
USHER: Good.
VISITOR: That was easy.
USHER: We try to keep some things that way.
