Wanted: Night Mechanic
A job advertisement from The Foundry says more about night work than the employer probably intended: experience is valued, legacy hardware is common, customers are tired, and no one is allowed to promise a repair before someone has actually opened the panel.
An in-world document. Its claims retain their fictional perspective and may be incomplete or contradictory.
Chassis, limbs, and standard actuators.
Experience with legacy hardware preferred.
Insurance documentation with Forge Mutual and equivalent systems forms part of the work.
Shift: 22:00–06:00.
We are looking for someone who can:
diagnose before ordering parts,
speak with humans who have had a bad night,
speak with synthetic customers who have also had a bad night,
and say “I don’t know yet” without treating it as a personal failure.
NOTE: Anyone who promises “done in an hour” before diagnostics gets to call the customer personally after two.
